Oman's Industrial and corporate activities contribute to approximately 90 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, significantly impacting global warming and climate change. The energy sector, accounting for over 60% of Oman’s total carbon emissions due to its heavy reliance on fossil fuels like oil and natural gas for electricity generation and transportation, remains the dominant source of emissions, while industrial processes—including cement production, metal processing, and petrochemicals—contribute around 30%, with waste management adding 4-5% through solid waste disposal and wastewater treatment, and agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) playing a minimal role, contributing less than 2% due to limited forest cover and minimal deforestation
Over the past two decades, Oman has experienced a significant rise in temperatures, with an average increase ranging from 1.5°C to 2°C. This warming is largely attributed to the rapid increase in CO2 levels and other greenhouse gases, a direct result of global and regional industrial activities. Oman, being part of the Arabian Peninsula, is particularly vulnerable to these changes due to its already harsh desert climate.
